Buying at Auction

Viewing

For your convenience we have viewing over the four days prior to each sale, Friday 9am-5pm, Saturday 9am-1pm, Sunday 10am-1pm and Monday 9am-4pm.

Bid in Person

To bid at the auction please register at our office on view or sale day.

Absentee/Commission Bidding

If you are unable to attend the sale you can leave a commission bid with us by handing in a completed Bidding Form or forward your bids via our online bidding system, up to one hour prior to the sale starting.

Your bid will be executed on your behalf as cheaply as possible bearing in mind any reserve price and other bids. NB Commission Bids left via www.the-saleroom.com/thomaswatson/ will attract an additional buyers premium of 3% plus VAT.

Telephone Bidding

We are happy to arrange telephone bidding where the low estimate exceeds £200, however such bidders must be known to us and arrangements must be made by the close of viewing the day before the sale.

Live Internet Bidding

For selected sales, Thomas Watson offer an online bidding service via www.the-saleroom.com for bidders who cannot attend the sale.

In completing the bidder registration on www.the-saleroom.com and providing your credit card details and unless alternative arrangements are agreed with Thomas Watson you:

1. authorise Thomas Watson, if they so wish, to charge the credit card given in part or full payment, including all fees, for items successfully purchased in the auction via the-saleroom.com, and
2. confirm that you are authorised to provide these credit card details to Thomas Watson through www.the-saleroom.com and agree that Thomas Watson are entitled to ship the goods to the card holder name and card holder address provided in fulfilment of the sale.

Please note that any lots purchased via the-saleroom.com live auction service will be subject to an additional 3% commission charge + VAT at the rate imposed on the hammer price.

Condition Reports

We are pleased to give condition reports on lots where practicable but encourage bidders to satisfy themselves on authenticity and condition. All weights and measurements given in the catalogue should be regarded as approximate.

Buyers Premium

Each lot is subject to a buyer’s premium of 15% (+ VAT). Lots purchased via www.the-saleroom.com attract an additional 3% (+VAT).

VAT

Very occasionally VAT is payable on the hammer price, please check catalogue description for any such lots. VAT where applicable is charged at the rate imposed.

Royalty Payments

Artists Resale Royalty Charge will apply to Buyers on Qualifying Artwork with a hammer price over Euro 1,000. Qualifying Artwork for ‘ARR’ will be highlighted in our catalogue description.

Payment and Clearance

Payment for all lots is due immediately after the sale. We accept debit cards, credit cards and cash up to a value of £9000. Please Note credit cards and business debit cards are subject to a 2.5% surcharge and ‘person not present’ payments are subject to a maximum of £1000.

Purchases can be collected during the sale where practicable or within two days of the sale.
