WEB NETS £33,000
COLLECTION TOTAL
Thomas Watson and Son, the Darlington
auctioneers, sold on behalf of a local collector a fantastic accumulation
of over 100 lots of Linthorpe and Burmantofts art pottery.
The collection benefited from the
world wide marketing provided by the auctioneers web site, www.thomaswatson.com
and gave buyers from Darlington to America the opportunity to view the
pottery without leaving their homes. On the viewing days the auction rooms
were packed with collectors and antiques dealers who were amazed by the
enormity and quality of the collection. The telephone lines were red hot
with enquiries on the 4 viewing days and on sale the day telephone lines
were fully booked for prospective bidders.
The top lots were designed by Dr.
Christopher Dresser and examples sold for £1500, £820, £680,
£620, £610 meanwhile Linthorpe profile plaques sold for £950
and £780 The Burmantofts pottery produced good results with the Monkey
Potter, a Griffin Jug and a Lustre Plaque each realising £850.
The furniture section of the sale
was led by an Edwardian Satinwood Bonheur Du Jour which sold to a local
gentleman for £5000 and another private buyer left the auction with
a Victorian Walnut Dining Table for £800. Meanwhile a Victorian Mahogany
Cylinder Top Desk was battled out by two dealers to £2250 and another
trade buyer bought a Victorian Mahogany Sideboard for £960. A Regency
Mahogany Secretaire realised £820 and a Victorian Walnut Chiffonier
sold for £620.
To finish off this report a Shelley
China Teaset from the 1920’s sold to a telephone bidder for £520.
