Thomas Watson are completely prepared to guide clients through the selling process at auction. There are a number of stages and factors to consider, but we can simplify all of these for you.

If you are considering the sale of an item and require a valuation, one of our valuers can conduct this free of charge. You can fill in the valuation form provided and we will be able to tell you whether or not your item is worth selling at auction. If it is worth selling, then come along to The Gallery Saleroom in Darlington where we can give you a free valuation.

We can help you to sell your antiques, collectables, fine art, jewellery and quality furnishings. Our selling process is subject to some charges, which are outlined below, and there are additional factors for you to consider. Thomas Watson Auctioneers & Valuers offer selling services of an extremely high quality that put the client first.



Minimum of £6 per lot: 15% on antiques, fine art and collectables; 20% on household goods


1.5% of the hammer price for loss and warranty fee

There are number of factors for potential sellers to consider during the selling process:

Reserve Price

An agreement can be made to set a reserve price on your items. Although, we do recommend that the minimum reserve be subject to auctioneer’s 10% discretion.


Cheques are sent out within two weeks of the sale. Certain proceeds can be collected by previous arrangement.


We can arrange for a van with two men at £45 per hour.

Electrical Goods

By law, electrical items entered for sale must be tested to comply with Trading Standards Legislation. The fee for this service is £4.00 per item.
