Knock-out lot at Darlington auction

Posted on 6th December 2012

Thomas Watson Auctioneers and Valuers, the oldest auction house in North East England, will be selling five costumes from the popular comedy gameshow It’s a Knockout at its next auction.

The items, which will be sold as one lot, will be up for grabs on Tuesday, November 27, and are expected to attract a lot of interest.  Among the five oversized rubber outfits are a Santa suit, cowboy-style costume and a headless man.

Peter Cartwright, auctioneer and valuer at Thomas Watson, said that the show’s huge following meant that the auction house was expecting to attract a busy saleroom, with people keen to get their hands on a piece of TV history.

He said: “It’s a Knockout really was a British institution and one of the most iconic TV shows of its time.

“Quirky and unusual lots always prove popular, and we are sure that there will be a great deal of interest in the items we have on offer on November 27.  I can imagine there will be many fans of the show who will be adding these costumes to their Christmas list.  After all, it is a rarity to have the chance to get your hands on something so unique.”

The costumes were worn by competitors vying for victory in the legendary comedy gameshow, which drew in huge viewing figures each week.

Mr Cartwright added: “People interested in bidding for the items can do so either by coming along to the saleroom or logging on to our website and taking part in the auction live.  The auction gets underway at 10am.”
