SUPERHEROES COMIC COLLECTION ARE THE REAL DEAL

Posted on 6th February 2017

We are delighted to welcome the film crew from ITV’s popular antiques show Dickinson’s Real Deal to our sale on Tuesday 7 February, especially as they will be featuring a fabulous collection of vintage American comics.

The show is one of the channel’s most-watched daytime programmes and involves members of the public bringing their antiques and collectables to various UK venues. After a ‘secret’ independent valuation, the items are passed to dealers, who make their own valuation and try to purchase them with a cash offer. Both valuations are then revealed and the seller has to decide whether to accept the dealer’s offer or send the item to auction.

The comics were brought along to an event at York Racecourse last month and when the owner decided to try their luck at auction, we were asked to include them in one of our sales along with a selection of other items from the day.

Divided into seven separate lots, the comics dating from the 1960s are from the two publishers that have dominated the American comic book industry over the decades – Marvel and DC Comics.

The first lot is a group of six comics from Marvel featuring the Amazing Spider Man and a Special King Size Annual from 1965. It contains a particularly rare edition (number 7 in the series) and the lot has a price estimate of £300 - £500.

The following six lots feature other well-known characters such as The Mighty Thor, Incredible Hulk, Sgt Fury and His Howling Commandos and Iron Man, together with superhero teams such as The Avengers and Fantastic Four. They have valuations ranging from £50 - £100 to £100 - £150 per lot.

The sale starts at 10am and everyone is welcome to come a watch the filming and find out whether the gamble paid off!
